Friends of Harvard Hong Kong Trust
Advancing Research and Education in the Arts and Sciences
The Friends of Harvard Hong Kong Trust was established in 2015 to provide donors with an opportunity to make tax-efficient donations to Harvard University. While our US entity serves as the trustee, the sole beneficiary is the President and Fellows of Harvard College.
Our registration in Hong Kong allows us to receive gifts from corporations and individual donors with Hong Kong taxable incomes, provide a gift receipt to the donors—which donors can apply against their Hong Kong taxable incomes—and remit the funds to the US to support research and educational activities tied to the University's mission.
Benefit of Giving via the Trust: Tax Relief for Donors
As a Hong Kong Charity, the Friends of Harvard Hong Kong Trust offers tax relief to individual and corporate donors via a tax receipt for a donation greater than 100 Hong Kong Dollars or its foreign currency equivalent. We can receive funds in any currency from any bank account in a non-sanctioned jurisdiction under Hong Kong law.
Gift Process & Ways to Give
Funds must be bank wired and received by the Hong Kong Trust’s bank account to qualify as a donation. Consult with a tax advisor if you have questions about how donations affect your personal tax. Harvard University, Harvard Global, and the Friends of Harvard Hong Kong Trust cannot offer tax advice.
Step 1: Gift Agreement
Complete a standard Harvard gift agreement between the donor and the School. There is no separate agreement for gifts to the Hong Kong Trust. All Harvard University policies and processes must be followed.
Step 2: Donation
Complete the donation form and wire payment. Contact us to receive a copy of the form and bank wire instructions.
Step 3: Receipt
The Office of Gift Administration (OGA) issues a donation receipt to the donor on behalf of the Trust.
